Once again I’m taking you back with a mix of the top hits this week in 1995 (urban charts for March 18, 1995 to be exact).  Heavy D protégés Soul IV Real were burning up the charts with “Candy Rain” and 2Pac had just released the classic Me Against The World, becoming the first artist to have a number one album. You can really hear the Uptown/Puff Daddy influence on R&B because many of the top songs from this week prominently sample hip-hop breakbeats and phrases.  For example, Miss Jones’ “Where I Wanna Be Boy” samples 5 different hip-hop records.  The slow jams were something serious, although I still say “Can I Stay WIth You” is one of the dumbest songs ever lol.  Sadly, this was also two days after Eazy E had announced through a public state that he had been diagnosed with AIDS (he would pass on March 26, 1995).
